Preschool & Kindergarten Vancouver
In our preschool and kindergarten groups, we prepare children for primary school. The emphasis is on beginning literacy, vocabulary and learning school skills.

In our preschool and kindergarten groups we work with the “Uk & Puk” method. This method teaches the students school skills with the help of a doll, Puk. A lot of attention is paid to beginning literacy and vocabulary.
For the 2022-2023 school year we have group lessons at two locations and online:
Group lessons Vancouver
Where: Martin Luther Church, 505 East 46th Ave, Vancouver
When: Weekly lessons on Thursdays from 4-6:15pm, plus 5 cultural days on Saturdays
Who: Children who speak and understand Dutch, age 2.5-5 (preschool and kindergarten) age 6-14 years old (elementary school group).
Group lessons Fraser Valley

De Esdoorn also offers school year long online group lessons that follow our primary school Dutch program. When there is enough interest in a particular grade, we form weekly 1.5 hour online classes in small groups of 3-5 students.
Group lessons online – Dutch as a second language “Dutch Kids Online”
These 10-week term lessons are geared to children across Canada who are learning Dutch as a 2nd language.
Where: Online lessons
When: Children age 4-6: Saturday morning 8:00-9:00am PST
Children age 7-11: Saturday morning 9:00-10:00 PST
Who: Children across Canada who speak a bit of Dutch and would like to improve their speaking, reading and writing abilities.
Yes. In class a lot of attention is paid to school skills. Listening to the teacher, sitting while listening to a story, how do you use scissors?
For the 2022-2023 school year, the cost is $1300 per year / $1610 if you register after July 1st 2022, for ~83 lesson hours plus 5 Dutch cultural days.
If a student joins later in the school year, the cost is pro-rated based on when the student joins the class.
In the preschool group, only Dutch is spoken by the teacher. It is therefore important that the students can understand Dutch. We encourage the students to answer in Dutch, but it is not a problem if a student still has difficulty with this.
While you are dropping off and picking up your child you are very welcome to come and see the class. But when class starts, parents are expected to leave the class.
If there are special circumstances that make it important for you to be in the classroom as parents, we can always talk about this.
