Are you looking for an opportunity to make an impact in a growing school and community? De Esdoorn, a Dutch language and culture school in British Columbia, Canada, is the first accredited Dutch school in Canada by the Foundation for Dutch Education Worldwide (NOB-Stichting Nederlands Onderwijs in het Buitenland). We proudly promote the love of Dutch language and culture, and our diverse team of students, teachers, and volunteers share this mission. We offer classes both in-person and online from three different locations.
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Chair of our Board of Directors. As Chair, you will lead the board and support De Esdoorn in achieving its mission and vision. This volunteer position is a unique opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills and a passion for education to guide strategic initiatives and act as an ambassador for our community and stakeholders.

What do we expect from you?
● Experience in leading a non-profit organization or similar entity.
● A master’s degree in Educational Management or a related field is a plus, but we also welcome candidates with at least two consecutive years of management experience.
● Strong leadership, strategic thinking and decision-making skills.
● The ability to collaborate effectively, make well-considered decisions and tackle challenges with an eye for diverse perspectives.
● Excellent communication skills, both in Dutch and English.
● A minimum commitment of 2 years.
● The willingness to attend 10 monthly meetings per year, as well as at least 3 cultural or special events. Actively contribute to building relationships and using your professional network to support growth and fundraising.
What can you expect in terms of time commitment?
The position requires between 20-30 hours per month, depending on ongoing projects and board activities and includes attendance at monthly board meetings and other organizational activities.
Support and guidance
As chair, you will have the opportunity to work with an experienced team of board members, receiving guidance and support during your induction period.

Job Posting part time Virtual Office Assistant
De Esdoorn is currently looking for a part-time Virtual Office Manager for 10-15 hours per month. Reporting to the school director and treasurer, the Virtual Office Manager supports the school director and the treasurer in the day-to-day financial and administrative operations. The Virtual Office Manager handles the postings of financial transactions in Quickbooks, prepares financial reports, reconciles bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers, and ensures records are accurate and taxes and bills are paid.
PRIMARY BOOKKEEPING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Processing Payroll, accounts payable, invoicing, and accounts receivable in Quickbooks.
Preparing payroll for external accountant with online payroll.
Preparing regular financial reports for the Treasurer (cash flow, operating budget), including a complete annual financial report consisting of a final profit & loss statement, balance sheet and annual budget.
Keeping records of financial procedures and policies in digital handbook.
Processing any financial agreements and contracts (insurance, venue agreements).
Collaborating with school director on invoices.
Serving on the finance committee.
PRIMARY OFFICE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creating guides and how-to docs internally.
Field and manage any inbound emails.
Planning and managing events by De Esdoorn.
Coordinating the shared drive used on Google Workspace.
Assisting and collaborating with the school director on operational tasks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Fluency in Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
High school diploma.
Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience as a virtual assistant, executive assistant, or other administrative support role.
Familiar with Quickbooks or similar accounting software.
Strong working knowledge of MS Office or Google Workspace (specifically word-processing and spreadsheet software).
Familiar with shared cloud storage, communication platforms and related technology.
Experience with online meeting software (like Zoom), online chat/instant messaging.
ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:
Excellent planner and organizer.
Strong interpersonal and social skills.
Maintain confidentiality and practice sensitivity with financial information.
The ability to work independently and collaboratively with team(s), external stakeholders, and partners to achieve goals.
Excellent writing, verbal communication, and time management skills.
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to complete tasks with little supervision.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Attend at least 3 cultural or special events in the operating year.
Flexibility in hours of working as beginning and end of month, and August/September are the busiest times.
Access to own computer and printer (if needed).

We are looking for native Dutch- or Flemish-speaking teachers to meet our growing demand for Dutch lessons.
We prefer applicants with a PABO training, but other positions don’t require PABO. Do you have a natural aptitude for, or background in teaching, preparing and dealing with students? Send us an email.
