Head Teacher – Dutch Language & Culture

Help us keep the Dutch/Flemish language and spirit alive in Canada!

Are you passionate about teaching the Dutch/Flemish language and culture, and excited to share that enthusiasm with learners of all ages in beautiful British Columbia? Then this role might be just what you’re looking for!

At De Esdoorn – Dutch Language and Culture School Society, everything we do centers around connection: connecting through language, heritage, and community. As Canada’s first Dutch school accredited by the Foundation for Dutch Education Worldwide (NOB), we offer Dutch language and culture classes for children, youth, and adults who carry a little piece of the Netherlands and/or Belgium in their hearts.

What you’ll do:

As our Head Teacher, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality Dutch education. You’ll guide and or support a dedicated team of school director, teachers, volunteers and the Board while bringing creativity and energy to our programs and cultural events.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching Dutch language and culture classes (to children, youth, and adults, in person or online).
  • Leading and mentoring a small teaching team.
  • Designing and developing engaging lesson plans and educational programs.
  • Managing class schedules and teaching assignments.
  • Coordinating cultural events such as King’s Day, Sinterklaas, or summer camps.
  • Building positive relationships with families, students, and community partners.

Who you are:

We’re looking for someone with enthusiasm, initiative, and a love for bringing people together. You don’t have to meet all the requirements — what matters most is your motivation, openness to learn, and genuine passion for teaching and Dutch/Flemish culture.

Ideally, you bring:

  • Fluency in both Dutch and English (this is a must).
  • A teaching background or relevant experience (a PABO diploma or equivalent certification is a plus).
  • Experience teaching children, youth, or adults.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • A team spirit and a willingness to take initiative.

If you haven’t led a team before but are eager to grow into that responsibility — we’d still love to hear from you!

What we offer:

  • A unique opportunity to teach and lead within a warm, close-knit Dutch/Flemish community in Canada.
  • A varied role that combines teaching, leadership, and cultural programming.
  • Flexible hours (expected to be close to full-time based on class demand).
  • A supportive environment where your ideas truly matter.
