In the Netherlands, King’s Day is the biggest celebration of the year! People wear orange, the whole country becomes a yard sale, and people celebrate with music, performances and street parties.
In 2022 and 20234 we celebrated King’s Day together with the Dutch Network, Dutch Business Club, CAANS and the Dutch Consulate. The day included a full day program for everyone in the Dutch community in Vancouver and beyond, and an evening program for adults.
Children participated in the King’s Games, which take place annually in the Netherlands in honour of King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. We played shuffleboard (sjoelen), egg-walking, sack races, koekhappen, donkey-prick and many more old Dutch games. We also painted Delft blue plates and children had their faces painted. It was a fantastic party for young and old!
